Regular City Council Meeting

The governing body of the City of Kirwin met Tuesday, October 2, 2007 for the regular city council meeting.

 

Present: Mayor Robert Hoffman

 

Council members: present: Brenda Loyd, Linda Roth, June Eakin

 

City employee present: City Clerk Wanda Jameson, City Superintendent Harold Holsman

 

Visitors present: Betty Still, Helen Canon, Melissa Johnson, Robert Eakin, Dick Bretton.

 

Mayor Hoffman called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

Loyd moved, Eakin seconded to approve the minutes of the September 2007 regular meeting. Motion carried 3-0.

 

Loyd moved, Roth seconded to approve the bills for payment.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Response letter from Phillips County Landfill was read.

Directive was given to clerk to get clarification on barrels.

 

Todd Lumpkin entered 7:45 p.m.

 

Brenda moved, Eakin seconded to send letters to property owners who have vehicles that are assumed to be in violation of Ordinance 197.  Motion carried 4-0.

 

Directive; report to city clerk that vehicle is operative.

 

Property cleanup discussed. Directive was given to monitor progress on pending notices.

 

Rhonda Gibson entered. 8:20 p.m.

 

Lumpkin motioned, Loyd seconded to get 3 estimates on demolition of property on Blk D, Range 6, Kirwin Sub Division Lot 23, facing the square and Blk D, Range 6, Lots 19-20 Kirwin Regular Tract.

 

Gibson moved, Eakin seconded to send a letter of notification of ordinance violation of 129 to the property owner of Blk D, Range 6, Lot 17.  

 

Letter from KDHE was read.

Directive to City Maintenance; talk to Phillipsburg about filter to take out Nitrates.

Any other action on this is tabled until further information is received.

 

Grant money from Dane Hansen foundation. No action taken at this time.

 

Directive; write a letter to KDOC in Stockton to paint the Depot Building and verify who owns the building.

 

Melissa Johnson gave an update on three community project that are going on. The Kirwin Wellness Center, banners for the local soldiers and working on a grant for the Community Building. It was indicated that we may need to use a 501 3C organization to apply for grant.

Directive was given to send a letter to PCDEF asking if they would be receptive organization for this purpose.

 

Water tower repair was discussed. Directive was given to get 3 estimates for the repair.

 

Lumpkin motioned, Eakin seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 5-0.

 

Meeting adjourned 9:07 p.m.
